Our Mission

  1. To stimulate interest in good music and its appreciation among the individual members and throughout the community.
  2. Help young musicians financially through three Young Artist awards and one scholarship at San Jose State University.
  3. Support the local musical arts organizations with time and money.

Young Artist Awards

  • Each year the SJMSC presents three Young Artist Awards to deserving local artists. Auditions are held in February, the winner is announced in March, and the Young Artist Award Concert and Reception is held on the third Wednesday in April.
  • Prizes: First Place $1,000.00, Second Place $800.00, Third Place $600.00
  • 2007 Winners: 1st: David Southorn, violin  2nd: Nicole Yazolino, soprano  3rd: Antoni Mendezona, soprano
  • Past winners include Jon Nakamatsu, an internationally renowned concert pianist, in 1987, when he was just 18 years old. Dan Levitan, principal harpist in the Silicon Valley and Marin Symphonies, was the 1980 winner.

San Jose State University Scholarship

  • Each year the SJMSC presents the San Jose State University Scholarship ($1,000.00) toward tuition at San Jose State University to a full time student enrolled at SJSU as a Music Major. Auditions are held in April, and winner presents a one-hour program for the club in March of the following year.
